MIA

January 11th, 2008

Sorry for the lack of content lately, folks.  It is because I haven’t been doing any work at all.

About a month ago, there was a big rainstorm here in the Pacific Northwest.  You may remember it, it was in all the papers.  It was such a bad storm that I-5 flooded for about twenty miles and nobody could go from Portland to Seattle for four days.
Anyhow, it was during that storm that somebody at the building that houses my studio decided to redo the roof.  So, during that rainstorm, there were damp, unhappy men on the roof of the building, tearing off the asphalt and tarpaper and throwing it into a truck parked directly in front of my office door.
Much to everyone’s surprise, the building flooded.  Those of us in my studio were incredibly lucky; the water just came down the walls and got under the floorboards, requiring new flooring and some repair work on the walls.  None of my things were damaged (much to my relief; I had every single Jonny Crossbones page on the floor leaning against the wall.)  In some of the other studios in the building had water pouring out of all the light fixtures, destroying art and furniture willy-nilly.
The insurance company required a bit of convincing before they’d agree to pay for repairs, and now they’re looking for a contractor, and the end result is that my studio doesn’t have a floor and probably won’t for another few weeks.

At first it didn’t look like it was going to get in my way too much.  I spent about two weeks visiting my family in Massachusetts for Christmas and expected the floor to be replaced by then.  This hasn’t happened.  I also just moved into a house that my rollickin’ roomie Jon Siruno  bought (and is magnanimously allowing me to live in in  exchange for  money)  and, thinking that I had a studio to work in, I organized my room in such a way that there isn’t any place to put a drafting table.  We do have a spare room, but until yesterday Jon’s family was visiting and sleeping in there.  Now we’ve got that set up as a backup studio, I’ll be getting back to work on Monday, after not getting any drawing done for about a month.

I hope I still remember how to draw.

About two weeks ago my ladyfriend Crystal and I had the opportunity to go watch a couple days of shooting for the ABC Family Middleman pilot.

The incredible voyage

November 28th, 2007

I had intended there to be a drawing to accompany this post, but I didn’t get it finished in time.  Anyhow, in an hour or so Crystal and I will be driving up to Vancouver to see a day of shooting on the Middleman pilot.  I’m kind of excited.  I’m going to take lots of pictures and maybe one or two of them will even be okay for me to post here.

Jonny Crossbones posts are scheduled to continue as planned.

Drink ‘n Draw this Saturday! (NEW LOCATION!)

November 16th, 2007

Because of Thanksgiving we’re shifting earlier in the month! Will we stay here? Who knows?

Anyway, let’s see what “2-Hog” Ryan Hill has to say about this month’s d-n-d…

THIS SAT NIGHT IS DRINK AND DRAW!!!!

We have a new location we’re trying out:

Madison’s Grill

1109 SE Madison St

Portland, OR 97214
(click for a google map)

Starting at 8:00!!!

And for this session I was hoping to experiment with something some of us old time Sequental SCAD students used to do in college… a JAM POSTER SESSION!!! This will be optional of course, but if you wish to partake, just bring a standard Bristol sheet with something drawn in the center (a character, or a scene… preferably something simple.) Then everyone passes the board around and draws their version/interpretation of whatever you’ve drawn. At the end of the night you get to take home a piece with lots of cool peoples art on it. If not though than feel free to come and sketch or just hang out and drink and talk about whatever. Please spread the word to anyone you feel like as this is a totally open thing (they don’t even have to draw… we get some of those non art folks all the time… it’s fun to stare at them and make them feel weird.)

There you have it, straight from the 2-Hog’s mouth. Sorry for the late notice, as usual.
