A little doodle I did as a gag for a messageboard I frequent.

As I lay awake last night until 3:30, watching the clock count up to the alarm at 5:30, I plotted out a short story featuring Rick and Garth, the heroes of my old comic Highway 13, which was published by Slave Labor Graphics from 2001-2003.

I haven’t really worked with these guys in the last eight years, so I ended up doodling some new designs for the old boys. Rick is now the road editor for a new edition of Killinger’s Road Guide to the Uncanny, and Garth has made some breakthroughs in therapy and no longer spends all his time as a wolfman.  It’s just a short story– I may work up a few pages in between other projects over the next few months.

It kind of snuck up on me, but I wanted you guys to know that I will be the Artist Guest of Honor at Capricon 32 this next weekend, February 9-12, so if you’re in the Chicago area, you should come on down and see me. My Middle-partner Javi Grillo-Marxuach will be there too. Bring your Middleman books!

I did this piece for the art show there. It’s an idea I’ve had popping around for a while, so I thought I’d finally get it down on paper.

Go to google and search “evil space robot.” This site should be the first hit in the results. Click on that. If it brings you to this site, hooray! You have nothing to worry about. If it brings you to a spammy Canadian pharmacy site, you’ve probably got a cookie from some dink who hacked my site that could do who knows what to your system. You might want to clear your cookies and browsing data for the last month or so.

Somebody hacked in and changed my .htaccess file, putting cookies on browsers and redirecting traffic from a few different sources. I’ve fixed the file, but I was still being redirected to the wrong site until I deleted my cookies.

Sorry about this! I’ve changed all my passwords, etc., so I don’t think it will happen again.

The only other way I can think of to get one will be to find me at a convention, and I don’t do too many of those. I’m overprinting slightly to hedge my bets against misprints, so I may have a very, very few (like, less than ten) copies to sell at conventions. When I’ve got an appearance coming up, I’ll list it on the sidebar to the left.

I just thought it would be fun to post a photo of the original art. I put a pen on there for scale.  Maybe you will be able to see it.

My apologies for the state of the studio couch. I should have neatened that up before photographing it.

Here it is! But, as I so often say, it’s not done yet!  Right now, Ragin’ Ryan Hill is working on the colors. I think we’ll be seeing those sometime in the next week or so.

I put the complete bit up in the top box this time so I could just combine the front and back yards into one update. Next: the whole thing put together, then sometime next week probably we’ll have it in color!
