I’m working on a short project (just six pages) to get my creative juices working the right way again. I printed the pencils for this Horrible Little Man a bunch of times so I could decide which inking tools/techniques to use for the final piece. The story is a “weird fiction” sort of thing. It’s got monsters in it.
I think I like the last one I did best– that’s the first time I’ve ever tried inkwash on anything, and it was a lot of fun. The gray on the suit works a ton better than any of the hatching I tried. I always like working with the Hunt 102, which I used for the linework on that one, but I was thinking of picking up a few random nibs this weekend and playing with them. I kind of like the super-dead line weight of the Uniball Micro, too.
Any thoughts?

Initial thoughts
1- Pretty freakin awesome
2- my least favorite one: “Brushpen”- I think the brushpen is great for sketching on the fly, getting something to a quick, decent, usable “workmanlike” state, or filling in blacks, but not as reliable or solid as the rest.
3- My favorite ones are #4, #9 and #10
4- the others are fine!

I actually use the brushpen for almost everything– I’ve inked every issue of the Tick with it, for instance. I just wasn’t getting the line I wanted with it on this, though.
9 and 10 are my favorites, too. I finally got the hatching right on 9, and I’m really leaning towards using a wash in the story.

They all look pretty great, but I am most partial to the one that was MOST FUN TO DRAW! Why not treat yourself? Also I haven’t seen you use wash before (as far as I can recall) and wouldn’t it be a nice change of pace? I vote wash!

This was the first time I ever used a wash in my life! I think I’m going to go for that with a ballpoint line– but the Uniball isn’t waterproof, so I’ve got to get some Gelly Roll pens for that.

Oh, boy.
Brushpen its my preferred one. I have used Kuretake (No. 13) but Pentel became my choice.
The inkwash version is simply great, but I agree it only fits this drawing and its colour.
This has been a great post from you!
