The story goes that in 1538 Ewan, the second son of Iain Og, the fifth chief of the MacLain clan, decided he wanted more land. He went to war with his father in order to get it. This may not have been a good plan, since he was decapitated during the battle of Glen Cannir, and his horse bolted. He rode, headless, off the battlefield. They say that his traitorous soul couldn’t rest, so it was put to work. The sound of oncoming hoofbeats heralds impending death for a MacLain.
I sort of used this story as the basis for an issue of Highway 13 a few years back. When I finally get to it, it’ll be part of the next Jonny Crossbones story, too. There’s not really all that much to the story, but I think it’s my familial connection to it that makes is so compelling to me.
I’m going to post this at the monster manual community, too.
